Richard Bruce “Dick” Cheney, the 46th vice president and former defense secretary of the United States, has died. He was 84.

Cheney died Monday night from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, his family confirmed in a statement Tuesday morning to NBC News. He was surrounded by his wife Lynne, daughters Liz and Mary, and other family members, the Cheneys added.
