The Scottish Fish and Chip Awards 2025 are set to take place in Glasgow this month, with the nation's top chippies vying for glory at what is essentially the Oscars of the industry. ‌

Ahead of the grand event at the Doubletree by Hilton on Monday, November 10, we conducted some research to test the old adage that 'fish and chips taste better by the seaside'. ‌

But could it really be that being near the sea enhances the flavour of a delicious portion of chips and battered fish – deep fried until golden and crispy, with the flaky white fish perfectly encased inside?
