Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has died aged 84.
It is understood he passed away from complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.
His family said the 84-year-old was surrounded by his loved ones when he died.
“His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed,” a family statement read.
The hard-charging conservative became one of the most powerful and polarising vice presidents and a leading advocate for the invasion of Iraq.
He led the armed forces as defence chief during the Persian Gulf War under President George HW Bush before returning to public life as vice president under his son, George W Bush.
