COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Built more than 20 years before Abraham Lincoln became president, the Goetchius House reflects Southern hospitality after all these years.
Richard Rose Goetchius gave the house to Mary Anne Bennett on their wedding day, September 11, 1839. Originally built on 204 11th Street, the Goetchius House now sits at 405 Broadway.
The house was split into seven pieces and moved in 1969 by John Woodruff Jr. to its current location in the Columbus Historic District.
Matthew Lapides and his wife, Renata Martoni, have owned the property for the last few years. They are just the fifth owners since the beginning. Lapides pointed out the clues in plain sight as to how the house originally looked.
