KINGSTON, N.Y. — The process to create a Charter Review commission to review the city’s Charter will continue to move forward after the Common Council voted 8-0 in a special meeting on Monday to override a veto by Mayor Steve Noble that threatened to derail the charter review process.

The council only came to its vote after a lengthy debate. Monday’s override will clear the way for the city to put out a request for proposals for a consultant to assist in the process in November.

In his Oct. 23 veto, Noble asked the Common Council to consider how much taxpayer funding should be allocated for this effort.
