Gov. Wes Moore announced Tuesday morning that he will launch an advisory commission to recommend new congressional maps as President Donald Trump’s administration pushes red states to reconfigure their maps ahead of the 2026 midterm election.

“My commitment has been clear from day one — we will explore every avenue possible to make sure Maryland has fair and representative maps,” Moore, a Democrat, said in a statement. “This commission will ensure the people are heard.”

According to a news release from Moore’s office, the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission, which will consist of five members — three from Moore and two from the General Assembly ‘s presiding officers, will meet later this month. Commissioners are to solicit public feedback on the state’s current congression
