Dick Cheney , a powerful and controversial vice president under George W. Bush, and one-time staffer for President Gerald R. Ford, died on Monday night.
Cheney , whose death was confirmed by a statement from the Cheney family, was 84.
During his two terms as vice president under Bush, Cheney was a frequent visitor to Michigan. Among his last visits to the state was in 2014 to discuss his longtime heart issues and his 2012 transplant.
