A five-year-old boy is dead after being struck by an SUV in a parking lot of a residential complex in northeast Edmonton’s McConachie neighbourhood.

At roughly 10 a.m. on Monday, a 25-year-old woman driving a Jeep Cherokee was leaving the parking lot of a residential complex, police said in a Monday media release. At the same time, the boy was running eastbound on the sidewalk and fell. The SUV struck the child.

The woman remained on scene and called 911. Police said the boy was transported to hospital, where he later died.

On Tuesday morning, Postmedia reached out to EPS by email and they confirmed they won’t be releasing the area of collision, only that it’s in the McConachie neighbourhood.
