CANTON ‒ A 19-year-old Massillon man has been charged with murder in connection with the Nov. 3 shooting death of Daryle J. Bryant , 21, of Jackson Township.

The police department said in a prepared statement that Deiveon Newman was arrested on the morning of Nov. 4 when he surrendered to authorities.

Police Chief John Gabbard said that at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 3, a 911 call directed officers to an apartment at 3907 Tuscarawas St. W for a shooting.

Responding officers found the victim inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.

Canton Fire Department medics took him to Aultman Hospital where he died a short time later.

The suspect left the scene prior to officers arriving.

In addition to murder, Newman is charged with felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
