OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A weekend funding freeze left nearly 42 million SNAP recipients facing empty pantries at home. Those folks received some relief as the Trump Administration on Monday opted to partially fund SNAP benefits , though the timeline for how soon that will happen is not known yet.
Saturday’s SNAP deadline left Omaha resident Brooke Nykamp, 28, with $12 in her SNAP account. Funds she would have had to stretch, if Monday’s partial funding was not approved.
“We are all very close to not having our head above water anymore. A lot closer then we would like to think,” explained Nykamp.
Nykamp is one of more than 150,000 Nebraskans who rely on SNAP benefits to live. The 28-year-old tells First Alert 6, she has relied on some kind of assistance like SNAP and Medicaid, for half
