The usually loquacious president of the United States was unusually brief when responding to a question last week about his intentions in Venezuela.
Asked if he’s planning an invasion, his answer was a succinct “No.” A couple of days later during a CBS interview he was more typically imprecise. “I doubt it,” he said. “I don’t think so. But they’ve been treating us very badly.”
Donald Trump thinks just about everyone, including Canada, treats him badly if they resist his will, so Venezuela is just one of many. But it is the only country the U.S. president has targeted for a massive buildup of ships, troops, aircraft, armaments, intelligence-gathering, spyware and operational upgrades, all the while blowing suspected drug vessels out of the water amid dozens of deaths.
