The UK Government has altered the eligibility criteria for Winter Fuel Payments in 2025. Last year, only those receiving Pension Credit were eligible, representing some of the most financially disadvantaged individuals in the UK.
Earlier this year, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that an additional nine million pensioners will receive the payment, which varies from £100 to £300. The crucial date to remember is 22 September 1959.
If you were born before this date, you could receive between £100 and £300 to assist with your heating bills for winter 2025 to 2026. This year, it will be granted to 9 million people, although those earning more than £35,000 will have to repay it through tax.
The Winter Fuel Payment is a contribution towards heating costs for residents of England and Wales.
