Football pundit and co-commentator Lucy Ward has told a jury that former Rangers midfielder Joey Barton left her “intimidated” and “physically scared” after comparing her to serial killers Fred and Rose West on social media. ‌

Forty-three-year-old Barton, who played just eight times for Rangers during a controversy-laden six months in Glasgow, faces multiple allegations of having “crossed the line between free speech and a crime” ‌

Through several posts made on X, formerly Twitter, directed at Ms Ward, fellow football pundit Eni Aluko and broadcaster Jeremy Vine. ‌

The former midfielder is on trial at Liverpool Crown Court, accused of 12 counts of sending a grossly offensive electronic communication with intent to cause distress or anxiety.
