LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Blue Grass Community Foundation announced Tuesday that they’ll be mobilizing $275,000 in 16 counties across the Commonwealth to help fight food insecurity.
They say in those 16 counties in the Lexington area the foundation serves, more than 86,000 residents rely on SNAP benefits.
“It’s critical right now that our neighbors have the food they need to thrive,” Lisa Adkins, President and CEO of the Blue Grass Community Foundation said.
She says the funds come from community endowments and the foundation’s fund.
“No one can be their best, whether at work, whether at home, whether at school if they’re hungry,” Adkins said.
That’s why Adkins says it was an easy decision to fund these efforts.
Any money donated and grant money will go directly to local food banks
