HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI — A body was found inside a vehicle found Monday afternoon burning in a rural area of Somerset Township near Jerome.

Police and rescue crews were called at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3 to the area of Sandhill and Backer Roads in northern Hillsdale County for a reported vehicle fire, according to the Michigan State Police.

Fire crews found a burnt body inside the vehicle shortly after extinguishing the blaze, police said.

The body has not yet been identified but appears to be a woman, police said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and has been deemed suspicious, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fire or who may have seen something to call the Michigan State Police Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.
