GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A bright meteor was spotting flying across the sky in northern Michigan Monday night.
Michelle Duff Aucello captured video of the meteor over Glen Lake and Patrick Grubba recorded it from Mackinaw City just after 10 p.m.
The video shows a large flash as the meteor neared the horizon. The green color indicates the presence of magnesium burning up as the meteor entered Earth's atmosphere.
The meteor was likely apart of the Southern Taurid meteor shower, which is active from Sept. 20 through Nov. 20. The meteor shower is expected to peak Tuesday night into Wednesday, with the possibility to see meteors fly across the sky all over the world.
