AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A student was taken to the hospital after they were hit by a vehicle while walking through the crosswalk at Bar W Elementary School in Liberty Hill on Tuesday, according to an email sent to families from Principal Joy Hudgens.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m., when arrival time was happening at the elementary school, the email said.

"Our school nurse and campus leaders immediately responded to support the student while emergency services arrived," Hudgens said in the email. "The parents were contacted and the student has been transported to the hospital for evaluation."

A spokesperson for the Liberty Hill Independent School District told KXAN "the driver remained on scene and cooperated with the Liberty Hill ISD Police Department."
