Thousands of users are reporting problems with WhatsApp , the cross-platform web and mobile messaging app for smartphones .

Reports of issues have come from across the world, including the UK.

It is currently unclear when the service will be restored. People from Brazil , the US , Peru, Italy , the UK and Costa Rica - to name just a few - have reported problems.

People are still logging issues with WhatsApp on Downdector, more than an hour since the initial outage.
