Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Guru Purab, is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikkhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. One of the biggest festivals for Sikhs, the preparation for the day begins two days earlier, as a forty-eight-hour Akhanda Path of the Guru Granth Sahib begins in the Gurudwaras. The festival also known as Prakash Parv falls on the full moon day of the Kartik month in the Nanakshahi calendar. Guru Nanak was born in Rai Bhoi Ki Talwandi, now known as Nanaka Sahib in Lahore, Pakistan, on this day in 1469. This year 556th Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
