(WOWT) - Officials are sending their thoughts after finding out Dick Cheney , former U.S. vice president and Nebraska native, has died.
The news came out early Tuesday that Cheney, the 46th Vice President, had passed at age 84.
He served under President George W. Bush from 2001-2009. The Associated Press calls him “one of the most powerful and polarizing vice presidents in U.S. history.”
He was known as a leading advocate for the invasion of Iraq, according to AP. While he was a former representative in Wyoming, he was born in Lincoln.
Cheney is survived by his wife Lynee, his daughters Mary and Liz, and seven grandchildren.
Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) responded to the passing of Cheney in a statement to First Alert 6 Tuesday.
