What to know on Day 35 of the government shutdown:
The Senate failed for the 14th time to advance a House-passed continuing resolution to end the government shutdown , which has now matched the longest in U.S. history at 35 days.
The vote was 54 to 44, falling short of the 60 votes needed to advance. No new Democrats voted in favor of moving forward, leaving the dynamic unchanged for now.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has said that he's hopeful that the stalemate could come to an end this week. He told reporters at the Capitol that he thinks "there are people who realize this has gone on long enough and there's been enough pain inflicted on the American people and it's time to end it."
