Uttar Pradesh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rishikant Shukla, an alleged close aide of jailed Kanpur-based lawyer Akhilesh Dubey, has been suspended after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) unearthed assets worth nearly Rs 100 crore allegedly amassed through corrupt means.
According to officials, the assets, spread across 12 locations and valued at around Rs 92 crore, are suspected to be benami properties held in the names of third parties. The SIT is yet to recover documents related to a few additional properties believed to be linked to Shukla.
Preliminary findings indicate that Shukla accumulated disproportionate wealth during his decade-long posting in Kanpur between 1998 and 2009. Following these revelations, a full-fledged Vigilance enquiry has been ordered against him.
