MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced the allocation of funds to food banks across the state in the wake of the ongoing government shutdown.
The shutdown has paused funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), leaving some of Tennessee's most vulnerable at risk.
In his statement, Gov. Lee said he plans to send $5 million to food banks across the state, which will be allocated based on the needs of each region.
"The Governor’s Faith-Based & Community Initiative is coordinating rapid response across all 95 counties," wrote Gov. Lee in his statement.
