Redshirt junior linebacker Owen Heinecke found himself wearing the green dot and receiving the defensive play calls from OU football coach Brent Venables against Tennessee.

Heinecke, a former walk-on lacrosse transfer , not only made his first start in front of 101,915 people at Neyland Stadium, but he was filling the injured Kobie McKinzie’s shoes as the leader of OU’s defense in its win over the Volunteers . McKinzie was a game-time decision and tried to give it a go during warmups before ultimately deciding not to play.
