CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -Bay Village has become one of the first communities to pass legislation to regulate the use of electric bikes (e-bikes) to try and protect riders and people walking on sidewalks.

This is something more and more communities are faced with because of the explosion in popularity of motorized bikes.

The legislation also includes new rules around electric scooters and what they are calling electric personal assistive mobility devices like segways and longboards.

Among e-bike rules, perhaps the most restrictive is the motor cannot be engaged if someone is riding it on a sidewalk.

Between dusk and dawn the e-bike must have a white light on the front and a red light on the back.
