Coco Gauff kept her semi-final hopes alive with a convincing win over Jasmine Paolini in Riyadh.
After dropping her WTA Finals opener to Jessica Pegula, Gauff knew she’d need to step things up if she wanted to stay in the mix for the last four.
She did just that, beating Paolini 6-3, 6-2 to even her record at 1-1 in ‘Group Steffi Graf’. Next up for the American is a clash with world number one Aryna Sabalenka. A win there could be enough to send her through to the semi-finals.
While Gauff is building some momentum, it’s been a rough start for Paolini. Sitting at 0-2 in singles and 1-1 in doubles, the Italian has found it tough going in Saudi Arabia. After their match, Gauff had some supportive words for the two-time Grand Slam finalist.
