A stretch of Highway 1 through Burnaby will be closed overnight Saturday so crews can get ready to lift the bridge deck for a pedestrian-cyclist overpass.
The overpass is being built to link Burnaby Lake and Deer Lake parks and create a safe, accessible north-south crossing between trails and other public amenities in the area.
The City of Burnaby said in a news release that the lifting of the bridge deck is an “important milestone” for the project, which began construction in late 2023 and is due to open early next year.
To do the work safely, there will be a full overnight closure between the Sprott and Gaglardi exits on the Trans-Canada Highway starting at 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
