Duke forward Cameron Boozer (12) and guard/forward Nikolas Khamenia (14) celebrate during a college basketball exhibition game against Tennessee and Duke on October 26, 2025, in Knoxville, Tenn.

It was a loaded slate on Monday night as we kicked off the 2025-26 men's college basketball season. Now, we're set for a premier matchup on Tuesday night.

The No. 6 Duke Blue Devils will make the short trip to Charlotte for a matchup against the Texas Longhorns to begin the season. Duke is coming off a trip to the Final Four but lost most of its core from that team, though it has retooled with a talented bunch headlined by five-star true freshman Cam Boozer.

Texas, meanwhile, fired coach Rodney Terry after a First Four exit in the NCAA tournament last season. Tuesday night's game will be the debut of the Sean Miller era as the Longhorns hired the successful former Arizona and Xavier head coach.

Duke vs. Texas prediction, pick:

Texas returns a pair of starters in the backcourt in Jordan Pope and Tramell Mark, but it added quite a few new pieces including St. John's guard transfer Simeon Wilcher as well as frontcourt transfers Dailyn Swain (Xavier) and Matas Vokietaitis (Florida Atlantic). The latter, a center from Lithuania, is a game-time decision with an ankle injury.

Duke has quite a few new pieces of its own, but Boozer is expected to be one of the top players in the country as a freshman, and he's joined by incoming international freshman Dame Sarr from Italy. Duke will also see some role players from last season in elevated roles, including guards Isaiah Evans and Caleb Foster, as well as big man Patrick Ngongba.

Overhauling the roster year-to-year is nothing new at Duke, and Jon Scheyer should have a talented group once again. The Blue Devils rank eighth in KenPom coming into the year, while Texas sits at just 39th.

Duke should be the better team here, and I expect they start things off with a win.

Prediction: Duke 87, Texas 73
