The singer for an iconic rock band has died.

She was 78 years old.

According to the Hollywood Reporter , the family of Donna Jean Godchaux -MacKay confirmed the vocalist died on Sunday at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee “after a lengthy struggle with cancer.”

People states that many might recognize Godchaux-MacKay — whose musical career spanned over the course of about six decades — as a singer for the Grateful Dead.

Variety adds that the Florence, Alabama native also served as a backup singer Elvis Presley, and worked as a session singer in Muscle Shoals.
