(NewsNation) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote on the eve of Election Day that he would impose tariffs on any New Yorker who moves to Texas after voting ended.
His X post stated, “After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC.”
Abbott’s office did not immediately respond to NewsNation’s request for more information on how those tariffs would work.
The power to impose tariffs falls within the federal government’s authority in the Constitution, not the states.
