CONWAY, S.C. (WBTV) - A man allegedly walked up to a group of anti-abortion protesters holding a deactivated grenade at a church in South Carolina this past weekend.
Sister-station reported that the man -- retired lawyer Richard Lovelace -- went up to the group outside of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, Nov. 2.
WMBF obtained a police report, which said Lovelace walked out of the church and over to the pro-life protesters in the parking lot. During the interaction, the report alleged that Lovelace pulled out the grenade, held it up in the air and waved it around.
Jessica Newell, who was one of the protesters, told WMBF that she tried to stay “calm and peaceful.”
“I said ‘Why do you have that for? What is that?’” Newell said. “I was hoping that I was not seeing it correctly.”
