A committee of Alberta MLAs, led by its majority of United Conservative Party members, has voted to begin the search for a new auditor general over the wishes of the committee’s Opposition members and amid several high-profile ongoing investigations.
Auditor General Doug Wylie’s eight-year term is set to expire in April. He appeared before the Standing Committee on Legislative Offices on Monday.
He sought a two-year extension from the committee to allow himself time to finish his ongoing investigation into allegations of corruptions within procurement and contracting practices within Alberta’s health system made by former AHS CEO Athana Mentzelopoulos.
