Montana state Rep. Ed Stafman has resigned from the Legislature, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
The representative for House District 59 is stepping down halfway between legislative sessions, giving his replacement “a head start,” as he put it.
“I had other things in my life I wanted to devote my attention to, and my role in the interim is fairly minimal (being) on one committee,” Stafman said. “It's an opportunity for someone else to get a head start, and that's it.”
The Gallatin County Democrats will nominate three people to give to the County Commission, which will select one.
County Commissioner Zach Brown, a former legislator, said this will be the first time any of the commissioners have gone through the process.
