Firefighters were able to liberate one person and two pets entrapped by a house fire last week in the Minnow Lake area.

Jesse Oshell, deputy chief with Greater Sudbury Fire Services, said all four units within the city core responded around 8 a.m. Tuesday to the blaze, which occurred at a residence on Herbert Street, off Second Avenue.

The first crews to arrive were “met with heavy smoke and confirmed a working basement fire,” according to an account at the Sudbury Professional Firefighters page on social media. “Crews quickly made entry to conduct an interior attack and primary search.”

Two occupants escaped with injuries and one occupant was located and rescued by firefighters, the account states. All three were taken to hospital by Sudbury paramedics.
