U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is predicting “mass chaos” in the skies as early as next week if the government shutdown drags on.

Airports across America have already been subject to numerous delays due to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) slowing down or stopping traffic entirely (albeit, temporarily) anytime it is short of air traffic controllers.

Some of the worst staff shortages took place on the weekend, including at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, where flights were delayed for several hours.

With controllers set to miss their second paycheque (FAA employees already missed their first on Oct. 28), that’s not going to get better anytime soon — unless the government gets back to work.
