Barrington High School’s number two singles player Charlotte Byon had faced off against LaSalle’s Giuliana Santoro twice during the regular season. Byon lost both times.
But at the Division I state championship finals at Slater Park on Saturday, Byon overpowered Santoro and captured the lone team point for the Eagles, who lost 4-1 to LaSalle.
“I think, honestly, I was very nervous walking onto the court,” Byon said. “During the season I lost my two matches with her. And we’ve had a couple issues on the court, which is normal, but I was just really anxious about that happening. I think as soon as I got a couple games under my belt I got that confidence, and I knew I had the game.”
