Amid Tuesday morning’s autumn chill, more than 50 protesters stood in front of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville office, demanding the reversal of the Co-Operative Care Centre’s looming funding cut.
As Central Avenue drivers honked in support, that November chill was on the protesters’ minds, as funding for the homeless shelter was set to expire at the end of the year .

“They really need our support, especially with the colder months coming,” said Amanda Dixie, one of the participants in the rally.
“They are people too. We’ve just got to reduce the stigma,” she added.
“It would just be so inhumane for it to close.”
