At 7 a.m. Tuesday, the polls opened on Election Day in Detroit and across Michigan.

The biggest race in Michigan is in Detroit, where Council President Mary Sheffield is squaring off against megachurch pastor Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr. Polls show Sheffield with a big lead. A Kinloch victory would be one of the biggest upsets in Detroit history.

Mayor Mike Duggan, who served three terms and would likely have glided to an easy fourth, is running as an Independent in the 2026 governor’s race.

In Southfield, incumbent Mayor Kenson Siver, who has been mayor since 2015, is running against Sylvia Jordan, a daycare owner and former City Council president.
