Mercer University to break ground on downtown medical school this week. Here's when it could open

MACON, Ga. — Mercer University and Macon-Bibb County will be holding a ceremonial groundbreaking on Friday for the school's new downtown school of medicine building, according to Mercer University.

Mercer spokesperson Jennifer Fairfield-Williams says the event will be happening at 801 Riverside Drive, which is right next to the Riverside Drive Burger King and across the street from the since-demolished old Crowne Plaza and Ramada hotel.

The ceremonial groundbreaking is being held by Mercer, Macon-Bibb County, the county development authority and other stakeholders, Fairfield-Williams said.

She says the university expects construction to wrap up on medical school campus in Fall 2028.
