The Royals have placed pitcher Kyle Wright on outright waivers, according to New York Post reporter Jon Heyman. If no team claims him, he can be outrighted to the minors, although if he has five years of service time he can refuse assignment. Wright has not pitched in a big league game in the last two years.
The Royals acquired Wright from the Braves for pitcher Jackson Kowar after the 2023 season. The Royals knew he would be unavailable for the entire 2024 season following Tommy John surgery, but were hoping he could bounce back in 2025 and show some of the form that allowed him to win 21 games with the Braves in 2022. But Wright suffered a hamstring strain in spring training, and continued to be plagued with shoulder issues over the summer. He made eight minor league starts for the Roya
