LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Lexington restaurant is giving out free meals to students, helping those who may not get dinner because of a void in SNAP benefits.
Geoffrey Grimes grew up in Lexington’s West End and his food spot, Grimes’ Fast Food Restaurant, is in the same area on Georgetown Street.
“These are my people, these are the people I grew up with, these are the people that still know me all the time,” Grimes said.
When his neighbors are going through tough times, seeing a lack of funds going toward SNAP benefits, Grimes and the restaurant stepped in. They shut down the store half the day to feed school-aged students with a free chicken meal.
