At the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument off the coast of Cape Cod, scientists got a fleeting glimpse of three True's beaked whales — a species that dives deep into the ocean and rarely appear at the water's surface, per the New England Aquarium . The aquarium's aerial survey team caught a few snaps of the whales from above, and shared the images in a Facebook post.
