Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has predicted that Queensland’s Matthew Renshaw will open the batting during the first Ashes Test while offering some advice for the out-of-form Sam Konstas.

Chair of selectors George Bailey will announce Australia’s squad for the Ashes series opener against England on Wednesday , with the likes of Renshaw and Tasmania opener Jake Weatherald fighting for spots in the side.

Speaking to reporters at the SCG on Wednesday morning, Waugh predicted that Australia would “play it pretty safe at the top of the order” with an all-Queensland top three.
