RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney has died from pneumonia and cardiac disease at 84 years old. But his time presiding over the U.S. Senate in the 2000s left behind the path for Democratic and Republican foreign policies still seen today, said a political expert.
Political science professor Rich Meagher from Randolph-Macon College (RMC) said Cheney set the frame for the armed intervention policies post 9/11.
The former vice president later garnered criticism for rushing America's involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Meagher said Cheney had bent the rules of Washington on America's behalf.
In the 25 years since then, Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden followed to varying degrees. Republican President Trump is doing the same today.
