Joanne “Copper” Phillips and her husband built their home way up north in Scottsdale’s horse country back in 1992.
She designed it, raised a family in it and eased her husband’s passing from cancer in it.
The couple also had as many as eight horses on the 2.5-acre property at one time, though she’s had to sell the last two after her husband died just over three months ago.
“He didn’t care where we lived as long as it had horses,” Phillips said.
But now she sees a proposed subdivision at the corner of Hayden and Dynamite roads as an existential threat to the community of horse ranches and homes with horses sitting largely on 2.5-acre and 5-acre lots.
