Van Dijk was back to his best as Liverpool held firm against a star-studded Real Madrid side at Anfield, as they backed up their win against Aston Villa last weekend with a statement victory against the Spanish giants.

Alexis Mac Allister’s second-half header proved to be decisive and as Van Dijk appeared alongside pundit Rooney on Amazon Prime, he let him know that he was not happy with the comments made on the former England captain’s podcast.

During Liverpool slump in form that saw them lose four Premier League games in succession, Rooney suggested Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were not showing the form of recent years, and hinted their appetite may have waned after signing lucrative new contracts last summer.
