HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Amidst the government shutdown, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits have been suspended. This change affects about 42 million Americans who rely on SNAP benefits each month to buy food.
On Monday, President Donald Trump’s administration said that it will partially fund SNAP for November, after two judges issued rulings requiring the government to keep the nation’s largest food aid program running.
Many local food pantries have stepped up to fill in the gaps left by lost benefits.
“We understand that many families rely on SNAP benefits to put food on the table,” said the Executive Director of United Way of Central Nebraska. “We want everyone to know that help is available.”
