GRANT COUNTY, Wash. -- A 54-year-old man died in the Grant County Jail on Tuesday morning.

According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, the man was inside a holding cell for people in crisis. Around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, the man was found unresponsive, not breathing and did not have a pulse.

Life saving efforts were put in place. Despite those efforts, the man was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m.

GCSO says the man was the only person in the cell at that time. Next of kin have been notified.

The man was first arrested by Moses Lake Police on Friday afternoon. He was being investigated for theft and trafficking stolen property. He had been in the Grant County Jail since the arrest.

The coroner will perform an autopsy to determine how and when the man died.
