CNN anchor Dana Bash was visibly stunned on Tuesday during the network's election night coverage after being shown the latest exit polls for the New York City mayoral race live on-air.

CNN correspondent David Chalian revealed exit polling that showed voters had moved away from Republicans on issues like the economy, which was one of President Donald Trump's strongest issues during the 2024 campaign. For instance, 72% of voters in New York City said housing costs are a problem where they live. Trump promised to bring down the cost of housing during his campaign.

"It's remarkable, and yet totally unremarkable at the same time," Bash said in response to the polls. "This is why Donald Trump is president, and now it's the albatross around his neck because it hasn't gotten better, and for some people, it has gotten worse."

Bash also revealed that Republicans on Capitol Hill have expressed private concerns about the impact the economy will have on local elections that will be decided on Tuesday.

"There's a little bit of worry that when President Trump talked to Norah O'Donnell on '60 Minutes' that it was a 'There's nothing to see here' kind of message on the economy," Bash said.
