Chrysler has recalled more than 300,000 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe vehicles because of a fire risk with the batteries.

The 2020-2025 model year Wranglers and 2022-2026 model year Grand Cherokees have a high voltage battery that “may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving,” according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

As a precautionary measure, Chrysler said, "Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. The remedy is currently under development."

The number of plug-in hybrid Wranglers recalled is 228,221. The number of Grand Cherokees is 91,844.
